Press Release: Buddies in Bad Times Theatre presents THE MAIDS by Jean Genet

September 8th, 2011

By

From press release

1933. French police find Madame Lancelin and her daughter face down, in their living room, mutilated. Upstairs, two maids are found naked, huddled together in one of two single beds. Their motive: self-defense against an abusive mistress. This true story was the inspiration for queer iconoclast Jean Genet’s masterpiece. A powerful statement against servitude, this psychosexual thriller is brought to you by the creative team behind last season’s acclaimed production of Sarah Kane’s Blasted. Review: Exit the King (Soulpepper)

August 29th, 2011

By

Death is the most absurd thing in life. This is the basic premise behind Exit the King by Eugène Ionesco, currently being produced by Soulpepper Theatre at the Young Centre. I found the play to be a little absurd myself, though probably not in the way the playwright intended.

The story is one in which King Berenger the First, the 400-year-old ruler of a fictional kingdom, is told of his impending death. (I believe the exact words are “You are going to die by the end of this play.”) He and his royal court spend the rest of the show processing this. We go through the stages of grief with the King – denial, sadness, acceptance, etc. – and I don’t think it’s spoiling anything to tell you that he does indeed make his Final Exit at the end. August 24th, 2011

From Press Release

New live, comedy quiz/chat show called The Panel Show debuts in Toronto on Tuesday, August 30th at the Bar Cade Theatre at the Hard Luck Bar. It’s a new take on the old medium of Panel Game shows (e.g. Match Game, What’s My Line, etc.) based on current events and trivia and filled with lots of comedy/variety elements (e.g. surprise guests, character walk-ons, etc.). The heart of the show is going to be the banter of the Panel, and there’s a great one for the first show (Comedian Ron Sparks, Writer/Publisher Rhonda Riche, and Writer Mike Kiss). By

Each of the festival’s 13 main venues has a Patron’s Pick. It is determined by the show that sells the most tickets to their show over the course of the festival. Unlike during the rest of the festival, where only 50% of the tickets are available for advance sale, For the Patron’s Pick, 100% of tickets can be sold in advance, so make sure to buy your tickets early. They’re on sale now, and you buy them just like any other advance tickets at the Fringe.

All the patron’s picks are Sunday evening, a listing of the time in each venue is in bold in the Sunday section of the Master Schedule.

See below for a listing of all the patron’s picks:

Advertise with MoT for the rest of Fringe – Bargain Basement Prices…

July 12th, 2011

By

So, I’ve been too busy getting set up for Fringe to do anything about advertising during Fringe on Mooney on Theatre this year. But I really really want to have local advertizing on Mooney on Theatre instead of Google Ads. Google ads is make me a surprising amount of money, apparently I have a really good click-through rate, but I don’t have the control I want. I want to feature local businesses and arts organizations if I can.

Mooney on Theatre is completely volunteer run, but our ads pay for administrative costs (hosting, publicity stuff, business cards etc).

This would be an excellent time to advertise printing services, headshots, rehersal spaces, upcoming shows, general arts organizations and companies things like that.

With that in mind, I’m offering super super super cheap prices for ads for this week, where we expect to get about 50,000 hits (we got almost 40,000 in the first week, and Fringe didn’t start until Wednesday night).

So, here’s what’s up for offer Read the rest of this entry »
