Wondering which Toronto Fringe shows to see?
We’re here to help. Usually I get my Fringe buzz from people in line but that hasn’t happened yet this year. Two reasons:
- I seem to have been running late for everything so I haven’t actually has an opportunity to line up
- Today is just too hot to troll line ups
I was in the line for Lucky 9 on Wednesday – right at the back – and ended up talking with Barry Smith (Me, My Stuff and I: A Multimedia Comedy) and Keir Cutler (Teaching Shakespeare) who were waiting to see Lucky 9. It seems to me that fringe performers waiting to see another fringe performer is a good sign. And Lucky 9 was terrific!
Here are the shows people are talking about on Twitter and in the comments on Mooney on Theatre.
A Fringe Contest Worth Dancing About!

The Fringe Festival isn’t just for theatre lovers. Thanks to the Fringe Dance Initiative, 11 dance shows are also a part of this year’s festival.
To encourage people to see these shows (as if I needed any encouragement), the Fringe is holding a contest. Here’s how it works.
Attend a dance show at the Fringe, and you will receive a stamp card with 5 empty boxes. Each time you attend one of the dance shows, hang around after and ask one of the performers to stamp or sign your card. Once you’ve filled all 5 boxes, give it to one of the dance artists or drop it off at the Dance Umbrella of Ontario (490 Adelaide Street W.)
What can you win? How does a trip sound? (To Ottawa, Montreal or Quebec City.) You could also win a spa package, tickets to a dance performance, or an aerial dance lesson.

2010 Toronto Fringe Festival Buzz

The best way to find out about what is hot and what is not at Fringe Festivals is through word-of-mouth.
That used to just mean talking to people when you were standing in line waiting to go to a show, or while you’re regrouping at the Fringe Club.
But these are the days of technology, so there’s an added way to catch the buzz, twitter.
If you have something to say about the festival use the hashtag #FringeTO so that everyone hears you. And, if you want to find out what Mooney on Theatre has to say, follow us @moneyontheatre
Our goal is to do a daily round up of the buzz we hear throughout the day and publish it here on Mooney on Theatre. We encourage you to add your own buzz in the comments section.

Fringe Buzz – What we’re hearing about Toronto Fringe Festival 2009
By Megan Mooney
Word of mouth is the key to Fringe. So, we’re gonna let you know what we’ve heard, not just tell you about what we’ve seen.
Be sure to let us know what buzz you’ve heard in the comments section below.
I’ll be posting throughout the day on twitter from my blackberry, so feel free to follow me @mooneyontheatre for information ranging from what show’s I’ve heard are good, to what you should get if you’re dying to buy me a drink.
If you’re tweeting Fringe updates, use the hashtag #FringeTO so that other folks can follow along, and I can include you in the buzz posts.
Now, for the sum-up of buzz from the last few days. It’ll be a bit longer than usual, but is a good way to get an idea of what you might want to see over the course of the weekend:
