The Panel Show set to make its debut Tuesday August 30, 2011

New live, comedy quiz/chat show called The Panel Show debuts in Toronto on Tuesday, August 30th at the Bar Cade Theatre at the Hard Luck Bar. It’s a new take on the old medium of Panel Game shows (e.g. Match Game, What’s My Line, etc.) based on current events and trivia and filled with lots of comedy/variety elements (e.g. surprise guests, character walk-ons, etc.). The heart of the show is going to be the banter of the Panel, and there’s a great one for the first show (Comedian Ron Sparks, Writer/Publisher Rhonda Riche, and Writer Mike Kiss). On September 3rd and 4th 2011, the Lab Cab Festival celebrates its sixth year at the Factory Theatre. Music, dance, theatre, film, poetry, kids stuff, clown, multi-media, visual art and comedy are presented in the basement, washrooms, lounges, stairwells, theatres, lobbies, rehearsal hall, carpentry shop, courtyard, parking lot and greenrooms of the 142 year old building. The best part? Free admission, free child care, and free pancakes!
The Lab Cab Festival is a free community event. The mandate of the Lab Cab Festival is to provide a home for various artistic disciplines to experiment with new work in a fun and supportive environment. Over fifty performance groups from various artistic disciplines will perform work between 5 and 30 minutes.

Searching for Transparency
An unfinished story haunts a writer forever. GITA Productions is pleased to announce the world premiere of Grayson R. Moore’s The Demonstrator at the Toronto Fringe Festival. The show opens July 6 at 10:30 pm and closes July 17 at 4:30 pm.
Audrey (Krista Hovsepian), a young journalist, accuses her boss of harassment, but soon issues a mysterious retraction without breathing a word of what happened to anyone. Isolating herself completely, her only contact with the outside world becomes daily conversations with her paper boy (Stephen Lotimer) and with an enigmatic young girl (Kate Zsoldos) who haunts her every thought, critiquing each and everything that she does. What has her spooked? Why can’t she seem to keep writing? And who exactly is this young girl at Audrey’s side?

Canadian Comedy Awards Nominees Announced

The 12th annual Canadian Comedy Awards 2011 nominees were announced on Wednesday at a press conference at Second City. There are 25 categories and the public can vote in 5 of them – Best TV Show, Best Film, Best Web Clip, Best Radio Clip and Canadian Comedy Person of the Year. Voting begins on June 15 and public voting ends in September. You do need to register to vote and can do that at the Canadian Comedy Awards website.
The awards will be presented as part of the Canadian Comedy Awards and Festival, October 13th to 17th, 2011. You’ll be able to see performances by many of the nominees at various venues around Toronto.
