Coming to Toronto Fringe 2009: MC Jabber & Friends [A Solo Show]

From Press Release

MC Jabber & Friends [A Solo Show]

Award-winning poet, comedian and vocalist MC Jabber will mark his Canadian debut with thoughts on cyanide chewing gum, Jaws on Ice, heads-free phones, anti-time, rainbow paint, pseudo-masochism, king-size mini-rolls, Nazi radio, acoustic Death Metal, laptop dancers, Klingon insults, sushi waffles, duodecimal ulcers, the plural of ‘chaos’, angst-a rap, horny antelopes, the collective term for black holes, balcony etiquette, coffee patterns, virtual massage and, of course, the Big Bang, without which none of this would have been possible.

Winner – 1st UK National Poetry Slam Championships (1995);

Winner – Best Performance Poet and Best Overseas Poet at the Austin (Texas) International Poetry Festival (1996);

5 years at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival with Jem Rolls’ ‘Big Word’ show;

Winner – International SLAM!Revue at the Berlin Literature Festival (2008).

Male vocalist in Blue Foundation (tracks featured on ‘The OC Show,’ Miami Vice’, and the US Billboard #1 soundtrack for ‘Twilight’ – 10 million hits this year on www.myspace.com/bluefoundationdenmark).

‘It’s hard to describe the experience of listening to Jabber, but it’s hypnotic, exciting and unique. He has the gift of somehow speaking faster than a speeding thought. If admission prices were based on words per minute, you could expect to pay through the nose for these gigs. His stream-of-consciousness machine-gun delivery is marshalled into strict rhythmic shapes and has the power of rap mixed with highly focused philosophical riffs. Phenomenal.’ (Time Out)

‘Topping the bill is MC Jabber, the lanky, Huddersfield-based, gibbering poetic genius. Tonight he delivers a one-hour set of insane, breathless, automatic poetry about relationships and modern times. It’s more like vocal music than poetry. And the audience – a camel-coated skinhead with a stash of poetry fanzines and an assortment of self-consciously boho types in 60s specs – love it.’ (Elle)

‘The head-spinning king of high velocity philoso-rap.’ (The Independent)

‘Jabber… is a frenetic performer who could take his place among a strong line-up at the Comedy Store any night… his asides are brilliant… Outstanding.’ (Evening Standard)
