Coming to Toronto Fringe 2009: KIPLING’S JUST SO STORIES

Deodar Productions Presents

KIPLING’S JUST SO STORIES

at the 2009 Toronto Fringe Festival!

Deodar Productions is thrilled to be presenting Kipling’s Just So Stories as part of the 2009 Toronto Fringe Festival. Starring actor Heather Hilliard in a unique adaptation of these favourite children’s stories and featuring direction by Jillian Rees-Brown, this production is sure to thrill everyone from ages 5 to 105!

Kipling’s Just So Stories features three of Kipling’s much beloved stories: Elephant’s Child, The Sing Song of Old Man Kangaroo and The Beginning of the Armadillos. With a host of exciting characters including a young elephant with “satiable curtiosity”; a kangaroo who longs to be different; a hedgehog and tortoise whom a painted jaguar is dying to eat; these loveable friends will take audiences on a journey of transformation and learning. Kipling’s stories play with language and rhythm in a way that enchants children and features humour that will delight adults.

Heather Hilliard, Artistic Director of Third Culture Theatre, grew up in India where her parents taught at an International School in the Himalayas. Now calling Toronto home, favourite roles includes Alais in Lion in Winter (London Community Players) and Jeanette in Last of the Red Hot Lovers (Village Playhouse). Kipling’s Just So Stories was inspired by reading Kipling’s book to her young nieces.

Director, Performer, Choreographer, Writer and Stage Manager Jillian Rees-Brown is back at the Fringe, having previously directed Ann St. James’ Prisoners in the very first Toronto Fringe Festival. As a director she has worked in Canada and the US and has enjoyed working in theatre for young audiences with companies like Kaleidoscope Theatre, Theatre Beyond Words and Performers For Literacy.
