Things Base & Weill…Love Can Transpose!

A Collection of Shakespeare’s words and Kurt Weill’s songs

Conceived and Directed by Luisa Appolloni

Choreographer and Co-Producer – Christina Gordon

Fight Director – Matt Richardson

What happens when you marry words by William Shakespeare to songs by Kurt Weill? Hamlet and Ophelia do the Youkali Tango. Falstaff sings September Song. Romeo and Juliet get Lost in the Stars. Step into the provocative worlds of two colliding geniuses and watch the sparks fly! Theatre Counterpoise presents edgy music, divine text and a little sword play.

This newly conceived show from Toronto director and educator Luisa Appolloni explores the base [and vile] themes of war, lust, greed, revenge, and love. Performing at this year’s Toronto Fringe Festival, the show features a talented cast of versatile actors-singers-dancers-musicians and sword fighters:

Stuart Constable – fresh from the Citadel Theatre’s recent production of The Wizard of Oz;

Christina Gordon – 6 seasons at Stratford Shakespeare Festival & loudest woman in the under 5 ft category;

David Kirby – 8 seasons at Stratford Shakespeare Festival & teaches flying as a Class III Flight Instructor;

Charlene Nafziger – Stratford Shakespeare Festival, accompanist, composer, musical director, & studio musician;

Matt Richardson – a lover and a fighter, archer@gto.net;

Siobhán Richardson – “variety is the spice of me”, www.siobhanrichardson.com;

Eileen Smith – Stratford Shakespeare Festival, Canadian Opera Co., & founder of www.hermione-presents.com.
