Fringe for Free – The Sicilian Wednesday 7:30pm

contest-web-graphic Another show that got 5 stars from EYE!  Nice!  Not a lot of comments on the review of The Sicilian, but the only one that’s there is positive.  And the show has received 9 recommendations on the ‘recommendometer’ (as I have spontaneously decided to dub the little thumbs up in the corner of the EYE reviews).

As you have no doubt guessed by now, we have a pair of free tickets to The Sicilian at Factory Theatre (Venue 5 – 125 Bathurst Street) on Wednesday July 8 at 7:30pm.  Head on over and have some fun!

To enter the draw, all you need to do is leave a comment* sometime before 5:30pm Wednesday.

The Sicilian
Molière Comedy Features Stellar Cast at the 2009 Toronto Fringe Festival!

Lee Wilson directs an impressive cast for the 2009 Toronto Fringe Festival in Molière’s The Sicilian, a delightful but little-known comedy that examines the trials and tribulations of love and jealousy. Adapted by Nicolas Billon and starring Sarah Joy Bennett, Zoé Doyle, Seann Gallagher, Isaac Haig, Sarah Kitz, Trish Lindström, Brandon McGibbon, and Michael Rawley, the production opens at the Factory Theatre Mainspace on Thursday, July 2 at 6:30PM.

The Sicilian is a pitch perfect example of Molière’s trademark wit and physical comedy, illustrated by the hilarious efforts of a determined soul – and his faithful sidekick – to dupe a Don and free his beloved. Beneath the frenzy of dance and pantomime interludes lies a classic tale of love overcoming all obstacles. Soulpepper Academy alumnus Nicolas Billon’s fresh adaptation honours the vibrant spirit and antics of the original.

Adraste (Gallagher) and Isidore (Lindström) are madly in love, but so long as Isidore’s intended husband Don Pedro (McGibbon) watches over her like a hawk, they cannot be together. Adraste and his trusty servant Hali (Kitz) pull out all the stops to free Isidore from Don Pedro’s clutches. To aid them in their plight, they enlist the help of two bumbling musicians (Haig and Bennett), various servants, a painter, and even Adraste’s sister Climène (Doyle). But will their schemes be successful?

Director Lee Wilson (Resident Director of Resurgence Theatre) and playwright Nicolas Billon (The Elephant Song, Chekhov’s Three Sisters) helm an impressive production that includes Dora Mavor Moore Award nominee Brandon McGibbon, along with Dora winner and Stratford sweetheart Trish Lindström. Fringe audiences can look forward to rediscovering Molière’s The Sicilian, a comedic gem by a master of the form!
