AUTHORS AT HARBOURFRONT CENTRE CELEBRATES 30 YEARS OF THIS AIN’T THE ROSEDALE LIBRARY
Readings and music with Eileen Myles, Stuart Ross, Jowi Taylor and others.

As part of its 36th season of readings, Authors at Harbourfront Centre is delighted to present a 30th birthday tribute to Toronto bastion of independent bookselling This Ain’t the Rosedale Library. On September 16, 2009, Torontonians are invited to celebrate this local artistic milestone being reached with readings and music courtesy of bill bissett, Lee Ann Brown, Eileen Myles, Stuart Ross, Jowi Taylor and the Six String Nation guitar. JAZZ.FM’s Jaymz Bee hosts, and This Ain’t… owner Charlie Huisken reflects on three decades in the business. The celebration takes place Wednesday, September 16 at 7:30pm in Harbourfront Centre’s Brigantine Room.

“For 30 years we at This Ain’t the Rosedale Library have been doing our best with the resources we have to share our passions for the arts and literature,“ said This Ain’t’s…Charlie Huisken. “This event with Toronto’s longest-running reading series allows us to pay special attention to the people who create the beautiful things with which we surround ourselves.”

Author bill bissett, founder of blewointment press – publisher of bpNichol and Steve McCaffery – gives a trademark charged reading of his latest “textual vision,” sublingual.
Lee Ann Brown reads from her poetry collection The Sleep that Changed Everything, which 2008 Griffin Poetry Prize winner Robin Blaser called, “an astonishing, wonderful book, top-of-the-line poetry.”

Eileen Myles, named “the rock star of modern poetry” by BUST Magazine, reads work taken from her more than 20 collections of published poetry.
Canadian fiction writer, poet, editor, creative-writing instructor and co-founder of the Toronto Small Press Book Fair Stuart Ross reads from his latest collection of stories, Buying Cigarettes for the Dog.

Writer and broadcaster Jowi Taylor presents his book about his “Six String Nation” project (Six String Nation: 64 Pieces, 6 Strings, 1 Guitar) centred around a guitar built literally from pieces of Canadian heritage.

The evening is emceed by Canadian musician, writer and radio personality Jaymz Bee.
After the onstage event in the Brigantine Room, the audience is invited to attend an after party in This Ain’t the Rosedale Library’s new home neighbourhood of Kensington Market. The after party begins at 10pm at Supermarket, 268 Augusta Avenue.

Authors at Harbourfront Centre’s 36th season of readings commences in September 2009. Full lineup details to be announced in the coming weeks.

About This Ain’t the Rosedale Library:
This Ain’t the Rosedale Library first opened its doors in 1979 on Queen Street East, later moving to the Church Street location that remained its home for two decades. In March 2008, co-owners and founder Charlie Huisken and Dan Bazuin announced that the store was moving to Kensington Market and that Bazuin would be stepping back from the day-to-day running of the business while Huisken’s son Jesse stepped up. This Ain’t… has been open at 86 Nassau Street since June 2008.
