The Making Of: Toronto 2010 Fringe Preview

From Press Release

The Mockumentary Makes The Leap To The Stage In The Making Of At The Toronto Fringe

Toronto, ON – May 18, 2010. A popular format in both film and television, the mockumentary has never successfully made the leap to the stage until now. From the people who watched “Waiting for Guffman” and “The Office” – and thought they were both pretty funny – comes a comedy that’ll make you wish you never found out what goes on behind the scenes of an independent film. The Making Of is a mockumentary that follows an inept film crew making a misguided documentary about the “untold plight of Toronto’s poor” and who completely miss the point.

With a script devised by the ensemble, The Making Of uses all of the tools in the comedy arsenal to send up the documentary format on stage for Toronto Fringe audiences. The production includes filmed sequences shot on location at Toronto City Hall, and interviews ambushing local politicians, mayoral candidates, with a few surprise guests along for the ride.

The Making Of is helmed by creator and director Michael Murphy (The Crackwalker, Rumours of Our Death/ Staged and Confused, Domestic/Toronto Fringe, Dust/CrossCurrents, Book on Tape/Luminato). The ensemble features Scott Clarkson (Rumours of Our Death/Staged and Confused; Fort at York/Crate Productions), Matt Gorman (Rum and Vodka, Winners/Cart Horse Theatre), Rob Gray (25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee/ Fallen Rock), Eleanor Hewlings (Don’t Dream With the Lights On/Rhubarb Festival), Emily Hincks (Rumours of Our Death/Staged and Confused), Rick Jon Egan (The Crackwalker/Staged and Confused, “Brave New World” for CBC), and Kat Sandler (Fibber/Theatre Gargantua, Dirty Girls/Toronto Fringe).
