FringeKids! Lineup: Toronto 2010 Fringe Preview

The 2010 Toronto Fringe Theatre Festival
Announces 2010 FringeKids! Lineup

Get ready, parents! FringeKids! is back!

With seven brand new shows — ideal for ages 5 to 12 — this year’s FringeKids! lineup features performances that will get kids off the couch, and into the theatre! Returning favourites Solar Stage Children’s Theatre and Cow Over Moon Productions join new shows from Toronto companies Roll Your Own Theatre, Sunny Leo Productions, Cats in the Cradle Productions, Two Wolves Theatre Productions, and Upside Down Frown Productions.

New this year, courtesy of event sponsor The Little Paper, pint-sized reporters will blog about each show and offer their thoughts and opinions online.   After all, no one knows what kids love better than kids themselves!  Visit the FringeKids! Junior Blogger to see what they have to say at www.thelittlepaper.com.

The 2010 FringeKids! lineup includes:

Fairy Tale Ending
Join Jill as a “line up” of characters is questioned about the sudden changes occurring in their fairy tales. A topsy-turvy yet touching tale of a young girl coming to grips with loss and the reality of growing up. With catchy songs like “I, like, totally don’t even give a care” and “You don’t know Jack”.

The Blackheart Prince
A tangle of secrets tie a rapping pirate, a Cheesecake-sweet princess, and a Story Dragon, together. Where pirates like to wear dresses, pets turn into wicked villains, and a little princess dreams to live in far off imaginary places – like Toronto and Mississauga. If only people could be honest, maybe they could live happily ever after.
The Cat of Kensington
Imagine you’re a struggling artist with unsupportive parents, an even less supporting landlord and a grumbling stomach.  What is one to do?  Turn to the help of one’s pet cat, of course.  In this musical retelling of the Puss In Boots folk tale, set in the fish-rich air of Kensington Market, art is cheap and dreams can possibly come true.

The New Adventures of Jack and the Beanstalk
A colourful, music-filled production with a cow that makes beautiful “moosic,” a beanstalk, a transforming giant and, of course, a handful of magic beans that change Jack’s life.

The Boy Who Cried Wolf
“The Boy Who Cried Wolf” is a classic fable by Aesop, which teaches the moral that liars never prosper. The classic tale is cleverly subverted in this satire of Greek theatre, switching the traditional protagonist and antagonist roles. This show is a fun modernist take on a beloved fable that will be entertaining for the whole family.

Jack Frost
Cow Over Moon is back and cooler than ever!  This time, winter sprite Jack Frost wants to become more human. But if he does, is it the end of winter forever? Add in some of the city’s favorite comics, some catchy tunes, and of course, a classic chase scene and you’ve got a hilarious show that is sure to be another Fringe hit!

One Eyes, Two Eyes, Three Eyes
Two-Eyes is treated badly by her sisters, One-Eye and Three-Eyes, who don’t give her enough to eat. One day, she meets an elf, who offers her a flute and an incantation that will provide plenty of food. The sisters become suspicious, but more charms ensue, leading Two-Eyes to a knight in shining armor.

All FringeKids! plays will be at the Palmerston Library Theatre – 560 Palmerston Ave.
