Metro: Toronto 2010 Fringe Preview

From Press Release

METRO
directed and choreographed by LINETTE DOHERTY
presented at The Toronto Fringe Festival July 2–11, 2010

Ever fall in love on the subway? Encounter an apocalyptic preacher? Celebrate with an entire city? Toronto choreographer Linette Doherty uses her life experiences (yes, she really did fall asleep and meet a boy on the subway!), as well as her versatile dance background to convey the fear of a woman travelling alone at night in Toronto; the elation on the subway in Washington as Barack Obama was inaugurated; and the strange and wonderful characters we ride with in any city.

METRO is a hilarious look at public transportation in the big city, and was a Top Ten Pick in the Montreal Gazette when it premiered at Zoofest in 2009. Blending hard hitting street styles with haunting contemporary works, and featuring a cast of zany characters, METRO is innovative, unique, and accessible. With music from Canada’s own kd lang and Joe Sealy, plus Digital Underground, Cocoa Tea, The Cure, DC Talk, the late, great Michael Jackson, and even Glee, METRO has something for everyone!
