Uncle Lindy's Quit Yer Snivelin' Tour of Life – 2010 Summerworks Review

Uncle Lindy's Quit Yer Snivelin' Tour of Life

When I joined a group of about 15 people in the courtyard of Factory Theatre for the 9 PM showing of Uncle Lindy’s Quit Yer Snivelin’ Tour of Life, one of three walking tours offered as part of this year’s Summerworks Theatre Festival’s Summerwalks, I wasn’t quite sure what to expect.

Uncle Lindy promised to take us on a tour of our own psyches.  A spiritual walkabout that would have us emerge on the other side with a better understanding of ourselves and our place in the world.  It seemed a tall order for a $5.00 60 minute or under walking tour.

From the first dulcet tones of Uncle Lindy’s fake British accent and one good look at Uncle Lindy’s fabulous moustache I was hooked.  When Uncle Lindy made us promise to believe everything s/he said without question, and then quoted the Wikipedia article definition of walkabout there was no question, Uncle Lindy is my new favorite uncle.

Lindy Zucker had the whole group laughing from the get-go, whether it was his/her description of how to avoid death for as long as possible, playful games like think about questions to go home and google, or walk across the street like we were in the Beatles’ Abbey Road, or even making us sit down in the middle of a park to take some time to really think.

I don’t want to give too much away, but will tell you that I definitely did not regret following Uncle Lindy down a dark alley way.

Uncle Lindy raises a lot of really good questions, like why do people die, how can I tell if my life is successful, or is there meaning and purpose behind the things that I do?  I’m not guaranteeing that going on this tour will provide answers to those questions, but I will guarantee that it will make you laugh.
