Review: Women Fully Clothed in Older and Hotter (Mirvish)

So guys; do you ever wonder what it is that women do when they’re together? What it is they talk about?  What makes them laugh? Go see Women Fully Clothed in Older and Hotter at the Royal Alex. It’s like having coffee with the girls.

Women Fully Clothed in Older and Hotter is sketch comedy at its best.  Every sketch is funny.  The timing is perfect. The show is written and performed by Jayne Eastwood, Robin Duke, Kathryn Greenwood and Teresa Pavlinek – Women Fully Clothed – a treasure trove of talent.

You’d be forgiven for thinking that this is just a show for women; it’s not.  The men in the audience were laughing as long and as hard as the women. It is a show about women, about their daily lives, but it’s a show for everyone.  At least, for everyone over 30.  Given that 30 is the new 20 I’m not sure that under 30s would get it.

This is ‘grown-up’ humour, shaped by living, working, and raising a family.  Don’t worry, it’s not a drippy show about kids but it helps to have raised kids while trying to have a life and maybe a career at the same time.

You can tell that these are four women who are secure in their careers doing something they enjoy. I’m sure they all like the paycheck but they’re beyond the scrambling stage of their careers; all established and well-known. And seeming very comfortable with themselves in a nice way – not in a smug way.

One of the difficulties about reviewing sketch comedy is that you don’t want to give anything away so I’m not going to tell you about specifics other than to say that I laughed through the entire show and so did my friend Pat. I will say that my favourite sketches involved multi-tasking, brownies, and yoga.

Go see Women Fully Clothed in Older and Hotter and be prepared to laugh and be entertained.
