Cancer Can’t Dance Like This – Toronto Fringe 2011 Press Release

From press release:

Cancer Can’t Dance Like This with a Fringe Twist!

Toronto, Ontario – After two failed attempts and a bout with cancer, Daniel Stolfi is bringing his one-man show Cancer Can’t Dance Like This to the 2011 Toronto Fringe Festival.

In January of 2008, Daniel Stolfi, Andrew Ferguson and Michael Chudnovsky got into the 2008 Toronto Fringe Festival. The boys began their creation process by filming rehearsals to create their show. Unfortunately, in March of 2008 Daniel Stolfi was diagnosed with an aggressive form of Lymphoma and had to undergo two years of chemotherapy. The show was cancelled and pulled from the Fringe. Daniel then underwent the hardest time of his life.

While going through treatment, Daniel kept his art alive by writing in his journal, conceiving ideas on finding the comedy in his tragedy. After a year into his two year treatment, Daniel connected with his good friends, Jennifer De Lucia and Andrew Ferguson, in hopes that they would help him produce his new one man show about his battle with cancer.

The show, officially titled “Cancer Can’t Dance Like This” was first showcased in May of 2009 and has been a smash hit across Canada! Daniel, Jennifer and Andrew are so pleased with the response from the public. The Show has also raised over $60,000 for Cancer Research!

All great successes, but Daniel still wanted one more thing; to get back into the Toronto Fringe. After two failed attempts, lucky number three came through when Daniel’s number was finally called at this year’s lottery! The team at “Cancer Can’t Dance Like This” are thrilled to be back where it all started, but this time with a new lease on life. They hope you will come see the show and help them celebrate!

About the Show

In 2008, Daniel Stolfi was diagnosed with Acute Non-Hodgkin’s T-Lymphoblastic Lymphoma, a form of cancer that would require aggressive chemotherapy over the following two years of his life. Just when his acting career was taking off, he put it all on hold to embark on the most physically, mentally, and emotionally draining journey of his life. While battling Cancer, Daniel lost his Hair, his Appetite, his Strength and his Sex Drive. The most tragic of all, he lost his ability and his desire to dance. With comedy at its core, this one-man show uses larger than life characters to vividly portray Daniel’s experience. Told mercilessly with a thrill and lust for the finer things in life, Cancer Can’t Dance Like This recalls the pain Dan endured during his treatment while embracing his own saving grace – the fine art of comedy.

“Cancer Can’t Dance Like This” is groundbreaking reality-theatre. Stolfi’s inimitable stage presence, natural charisma and undeniable passion for performance makes it a must-see.”
