Sex, Religion & Other Hang-ups – Toronto Fringe 2011 Press Release

From press release:

SEX, RELIGION & OTHER HANG-UPS: A SHOW OF FIRST TIMES FEATURES JAMES GANGL AS THE PATRON SAINT OF GETTING LAID!

Gangl pops his solo-show cherry as he lays with the omnipotent forces of Sex & Religion with solo-show veteran and first time director Chris Gibbs.  At The Toronto Fringe see Sex, Religion & Other Hang-ups, Theatre Passe Muraille Backspace.

[Toronto, ON] –  In Sex, Religion & Other Hang-ups, Gangl tackles the first time he recognized patterns surrounding his sexuality, his staunch Catholic belief system, and the obstacles that come in the pursuit of a f*!k-able best friend.  Fringe sensation and one-person show veteran, Chris Gibbs, takes on the role of director for the very first time, mining the universal truths in Gangl’s twisted and touching true story.

James Gangl is a decorated improviser nominated for 3 Canadian Comedy Awards including Best Male Improviser and is creator of the hit comedy shows Dreadwood and James Gangl’s Comedic Argument. Although this is his first time directing someone else, Gibbs has directed himself in a number of Fringe hits including Like Father Like Son…Sorry, Antoine Feval and Gibberish.  Gibbs won a Canadian Comedy Award along with The Carnegie Hall Show for Best Improv Troupe and has been called “One of the funniest guys around” by the National Post.  Gibbs hopes Gangl will be another one of those funny guys… just not as funny as him.

  1. Full Disclosure…I know James Gangl. And that is why I was lucky enough to see a preview of this show (for invited guests). It was a really funny show spurred on by Gangl’s energy and enthusiasm. Don’t miss it.

  2. Saw the preview of the show. James is a great performer and the material is strong. With the caveat that I know James, I have to say I can’t imagine anyone not enjoying this at the fringe.

  3. There is more pussy in this show than at the Humane Society. Bring a box of kleenex – you’ll need it to capture your various bodily fluids that will spew forth from watching this masterpiece. James Gangl is brilliant at playing himself.

  4. James’ honest and sincere subject matter and performance makes this show a true success. It is an honour to watch James spill his guts out.

  5. Gangl’s one man tale is one that is engaging and entertaining. His manic delivery only heightens the importance in what he is trying to communicate in a very charming and revealing way. I highly recommend this show as one to see…very engaging with a healthy dose of whimsical delight.
