Mullet’s Make-a-Play – Toronto Fringe 2011 Press Release

From press release

This summer, Mullet the zombie clown stages the greatest show of his career, filled with award-winning comedians and groundbreaking musicians. The play is his second biggest challenge. The first is facing his inner Demon. While this Demon may keep Mullet’s undead and decaying body functioning, it is Mullet’s overwhelming desire to make people laugh and love him that keeps him alive. But as his show falls apart, so does his confidence and constitution, allowing the Demon to take control, dooming him to doubt and failure. The time has come for Mullet to face his fears and take a stand in the fight for his soul.

Jean-Paul Mullét was born in 1726, died in 1747, and washed up onshore 100 years later. Now he performs live and on TV, is the star of his own weekly webcomic, and one of the more sought after and respected clowns working in Toronto today. His performances, which seamlessly mix scripted material with improv and audience participation, meld comedy, horror, and pathos. He frequently challenges traditional structure and breaks down the barriers between performer and audience, presentation and experience. No Mullet show is ever exactly the same. Credits include regular appearances on Ed & Red’s Night Party as well as Ed the Sock’s This Movie Sucks!, which was recently nominated for the 2011 Canadian Comedy Award for Best TV Show. He has appeared at The Second City, Bad Dog Theatre, Comic-Con International in San Diego, and is a regular performer in the Centre of Gravity’s Lunacy Cabaret and the Toronto Festival of Clowns. This is his first appearance in the Toronto Fringe.

While not a variety show, every performance features a different lineup, with over thirty perfomers making up Mullet’s Make-a-Players. This includes Bruce Hunter (Illustrated Men), Kris Siddiqi (The Second City), Sandy Jobin-Bevans (Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle), Albert Howell (This Hour Has 22 Minutes), and Ashley Botting (nominated for the 2011 Canadian Comedy Award for Best Female Improviser). Mullet is also excited to welcome Kate Dunbar, a new clown who was recently awarded first prize in the 2011 Toronto Festival of Clowns student showcase.

Mullet has been on TV, the web, and in comics. Don’t miss this unique opportunity to see him starring in his own live show. His fate just may depend on you being there.
