(Toronto, ON – Monday, June 20, 2011) – What happens when you assemble Toronto’s most prolific comedic improvisers to create an ongoing episodic story packed with drama, romance, intrigue and betrayal? You get The Soaps! The Live Improvised Soap Opera.  During The Fringe Festival, starting Friday July 8th at The Bathurst Theatre, audiences will be in for a treat as each show is different and not even the cast knows where storylines will go.  The show stars Paul Bates (Dan for Mayor), Matt Baram (Wingin’ it), Jim Annan (Every commercial on TV!), Lisa Brooke (Second City Alumna), Aurora Browne (Comedy Inc.), Christy Bruce (Second City Alumna), Chris Gibbs (Fringe Festival favourite), Albert Howell (This Hour has 22 Minutes), Lisa Merchant (Train 48), Scott Montgomery (Ron James Show) and Ron Pederson (Mad TV) with music by Scott Christian and Chris New.

“We are thrilled to be a part of The Fringe Festival this year. We have a cast that, together, have won over 20 Canadian Comedy Awards and have been nominated for Doras, Geminis and theatre awards across the county.  The city’s best improvisers will create a brand new soap opera on the fly,” said Christy Bruce, Associate Producer of National Theatre Of the World.

The Soaps! The Live Improvised Soap Opera has the distinction to be chosen as one of The Toronto Fringe Festival’s fundraising shows this year and can be seen at The Bathurst Street Theatre (736 Bathurst Street, one block south of Bloor Street) on the following dates:
