From press release

Little Red Sings & Rhymes in Fringe Kids
Classic tale revamped with chamber orchestra to delight and surprise audiences of all ages

April 28, 2011. Toronto, Ontario… Little Red, Grandma and the wolf, oh my! Resonance Theatre is proud to announce its inaugural Toronto production of Tom Smail and Emma House’s Little Red Riding Hood as part of the Toronto FringeKids! program at the Palmerston Library Theatre. The play will delight audiences from July 7th to July 16th, 2011.

Whether you’re young, or whether you’re old, you’re bound to have heard this story told. The story of a woodland caper much reported in the local paper.  It’s been around for years & years & never grows dull or so it appears. Little Red Riders dances & plays and dances with flowers she meets on her way.

An orchestra plays wherever she goes, painting the scene as the tension grows.

And grow it does, as The Wolf draws near but Red Riders thinks she has nothing to fear.  How wrong she is, and she ‘Eeks!’ with fright when she notices Grandma’s nightie’s too tight!  Oh My! The Wolf!

These are tough times…Oh well, at least our story rhymes. Director Renee Salewski is a stage veteran having performed extensively in oratorio and opera throughout the UK with companies such as English Touring Opera, D’Oyly Carte Opera Company and The Arcola Theatre; most recently she’s turned her hand to direction and adaption, she is Director in Residence for Syncopation in London, UK and has founded Resonance Theatre here in Toronto, ON. The gifted cast of 6 consists of recent graduates from Randolph Academy and Sheridan and 2 associates from the National Ballet.

Little Red Riding Hood was originally written for a CD album read by Harry Enfield, a well known British comedian. It was repurposed for the stage by the English Touring Opera and Renée Salewski was given permission to repurpose it for the Fringe Kids! The play is designed for children aged 3-7, and is a fantastic introduction to the instruments of the orchestra as well as an engaging retelling of the story.

  1. Hey Deborah, we’re just media, we don’t deal with any of that. The Toronto Fringe Festival website (http://fringetoronto.com/fringefest/index.html) will have information on ordering advance tickets. Or, you can show up an hour before showtime and take your chances (but I don’t particularly recommend that)
