THE EDITOR: A LOVE STORY PREMIERES THIS SUMMER
Well, it’s not really a love story, per se.
May 6, 2011. Toronto, Ontario…Brain Box Theatre is proud to announce the premiere of The Editor as part of the Toronto Fringe Festival.
In The Editor, Arthur (Eric Double) has created a performance about the importance of careful writing editing. Using a laptop and projector, he will be editing a story he wrote – live on stage – to educate amuse this year’s Toronto Fringe audiences. The result is an existential laugh-out-loud look at how we edit ourselves and try to edit the people we love, to sometimes to disastrous results.
Brain Box Theatre was created in the wake of Fireslide Productions’ workshop and showcase performance of The Editor at the Theatre Centre, which was warmly received by audiences in June 2010. Brain Box Theatre reunites high-school friends and long-time collaborators Jonathan Kline (Brain Box Theatre) and Eric Double (Theatre Caravel). Director Coleen MacPherson (TheatreRUN) and playwright/producer Jonathan Kline are also thrilled to be collaborating in theatre for the first time in over eight years.
Playwright Jonathan Kline is the winner of the 2010 Toronto Fringe’s 24-hour playwriting contest (The Tempest and the Birch Tree), and is a Toronto-based divorce lawyer. Director Coleen MacPherson is an actor, playwright, director, and associate artist with TheatreRUN. She has directed TheatreRUN’s The Double (Theatre Passe Muraille’s BUZZ Festival) and several large scale community plays. Eric Double (Arthur), is an actor, director, mask-maker, and co-founder and artistic director of Theatre Caravel. His recent performance in Darren O’Donnell’s Over was hailed as “…phenomenal…” by Mooney on Theatre. Madison Walsh (Sophie) is a graduate of the American Academy of Dramatic Arts (New York) and recently appeared in Dual Suspects on Global.
The Editor is a raw comedy with a novel structure about the editor in all of us. To promote The Editor, Brain Box Theatre will be producing a series of videos featuring Arthur editing selected writing submissions from the public. The videos will be available online beginning in early-June at brainboxtheatre.com and on Youtube.
