Five for Twenty (Or Less)

This week’s Cheap Theatre edition features 5 shows that cost under $20. There is no specific theme other than it’s all mainly local, cheap theatre. If you didn’t get a chance to catch a Fringe show here’s your chance to get out and see the best of the best this week.

BEST OF FRINGE UPTOWN (Fringe Toronto). Encore performances of Hypnogogic Logic By Uncalled For; ELLAmentary; Living With Henry;Kim’s Convenience; Love, Virtually; Mickey & Judy; Pitch Blond;Remember, Maggy?; The Soaps; The Travelling Salesman & His Magical Suitcase Of Desires; and Tiki Bikini Beach Paradise Party A-Go-Go. FIERCE MONSTERS by Rebecca Buttigieg (The Pop Group). This old-fashioned western with a twist gets a staged reading. Jul 31 at 7 pm. Pwyc. Victory café, upstairs, 581 Markham. 416-516-5787.

SELKIEMAID (Little Red Theatre). A magical seal meets a special child in this play for ages four to 12.   1. … there’s a called “vivacity” this weekend (starting friday) that also fits here, and might be worth note too, if the last vivacity is anything to go by. the last one (i saw) was at the winchester street theatre in late december ’10 … the actors — all youth, all pretty much newcomers to the stage — seemed totally relaxed while performing, which made the material roll-off sooo naturally. … i particularly admire this, because the material, that deals ostensibly with local social issues, had the potential to be dry or awkward. instead it was drenched in the cool charisma of the actors. …
