The Lab Cab Festival Celebrates its 6th Year

From press release

On September 3rd and 4th 2011, the Lab Cab Festival celebrates its sixth year at the Factory Theatre. Music, dance, theatre, film, poetry, kids stuff, clown, multi-media, visual art and comedy are presented in the basement, washrooms, lounges, stairwells, theatres, lobbies, rehearsal hall, carpentry shop, courtyard, parking lot and greenrooms of the 142 year old building. The best part? Free admission, free child care, and free pancakes!

The Lab Cab Festival is a free community event. The mandate of the Lab Cab Festival is to provide a home for various artistic disciplines to experiment with new work in a fun and supportive environment. Over fifty performance groups from various artistic disciplines will perform work between 5 and 30 minutes.

Here are some festival highlights that may interest you:

  • A chance to see Toronto’s rising stars: Cassy Walker (manifesto/artreach youth arts pitch contest 2010 winner) and songstress Stella Rose (Toronto born folk/roots singer) alongside established professionals like Laura Hubert (Leslie Spit Trio), Michaela Washburn (award winning actor/writer/improviser) and comic film makers Karyn Dwyer (actor, Better Than Chocolate) and Albert Howell (head writer, 22 Minutes).
  • Well-known visual artists: bronze sculptress Julie Campagna and painter/graphic novelist Mike Parsons (hey, Apathy!), it also gives artists the opportunity to explore other disciplines. Award winning actress Allegra Fulton will showcase her photography talents and actor Eric Goulem will present his dioramas based on scenes from the hit TV show Six Feet Under.
  • Performances for kids: Space Chums (music by former Shrimp Magnet AD Kate Keenan), Leah Salomaa Family Music, Laura Beingessner (illustration), Anna Kerz (storytelling), Shadowland Theatre (puppetry) and Hayley Carr & Alison McDonald (theatre).
