TAM LIN – A Dark New Musical
International Playwright Combines Rich Heritage with Toronto’s Brightest New Talents

28 May 2012.  Toronto, ON.  Ceud mile failte – a hundred thousand welcomes!  Epona Productions is thrilled to come to Canada for the world premiere of their new musical drama, TAM LIN.

This extraordinary new piece of theatre may be but a half a year in the making, but comes from a strong legacy of musical and dramatic work as well as over two decades of experience in playing the bagpipes.  Award-winning American playwright Màiri Mason – who not only wrote the book and lyrics, but also composed much of the music and performs in the work as an actor and piper – was raised with a deep appreciation and understanding of Scottish history, culture, and Gaelic language.  In fact, TAM LIN is based on a traditional Scottish ballad, and draws heavily from her rich background.

An exceptionally talented group of actors, musicians, vocalists, and dancers brings this thrilling work to life.  Incredibly, all of them are either still a year away from finishing or very recently completed their theatre studies.  Alexander Offord’s staging creates a memorable experience as Wesley J. Colford, Linnea Currie-Roberts, Vaughn Harris, Renée Haché, Màiri Mason, Iain Stewart, and Amy Marie Wallace dive into both the world and music of the tale.  Choreographer Courtney Simpson, another recent graduate, brings her years of expertise in musical theatre and highland dancing to the mix, while Amy Marie Wallace provides stunning design elements on top of her incredible performance as an actor and fiddler.  David Juby has graciously provided stellar costumes.

TAM LIN is a rousing love story on the themes of family, duty, and the worthiness of life.  Featuring some of Toronto’s finest young performers, Scots Gaelic phrases and lyrics, highland dancing, and live music, including bagpipes, fiddle, and bodhrán, TAM LIN is a daring vividly human story that is sure to resonate with audience members of all backgrounds.  Come, and be swept off to Scotland.
