See below for details on each show, how the contest works:

Fake News Fangirl

From Press Release: Sharilyn thinks comedy is pretty great. Beautiful, in fact. But the mid-90s haze of Gen-X angst doesn’t encourage such warm-and-fuzzy admissions, so she channels her love of laughter into something much more socially acceptable: an out-of-control infatuation with a young, hot comedian named Jon Stewart.

Directed by Laura Anne Harris (star of 2011 Toronto Fringe hit Pitch Blond), Fake News Fangirl is the completely true story of one woman’s adventures in the world of Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert fandom. A hotel room encounter with a Daily Show correspondent; writing horrible fan fiction about her heroes; and when fantasy clashes with reality, suddenly becoming closer to their creative process than she ever imagined (or wanted).

This piece plays at Theatre Passe Muraille Backspace. Performances: July 05 9:30 PM, July 07 3:15 PM, July 08 2:45 PM, July 09 5:45 PM, July 11 6:30 PM, July 12 4:30 PM, July 13 10:30 PM, July 14 8:00 PM

Samkon and Francis go Swimming

From Press release: Two delivery guys are in the wrong place at the wrong time, doing the wrong thing to rub the wrong woman the wrong way. Set in the heart of Little Italy – on Henderson Avenue to be exact – this new side-splitting comedy, about an unlikely friendship that defies age and cultural barriers, is a celebration of the innocent-at-heart.

This piece plays at the Tarragon Theatre Mainspace. Performances: July 04 07:00 PM, July 07 09:15 PM, July 08 06:30 PM, July 10 01:15 PM, July 11 02:15 PM, July 13 03:30 PM, July 14 08:00 PM

Something From Nothing

From Press releaseSomething from Nothing, which includes music, song, story and 3 amazing and adorable mice puppets, has been performed to over 300,000 school-age children, their parents and educators throughout the GTA, the East Coast and as far as Inuvik, North West Territories.

The story tells of the special relationship between Joseph and his Grandfather as he ‘snips, snips, snips’ his baby blanket into a coat, a vest, a tie, a kerchief, and finally a button. One day the button is lost but Joseph realizes there is one more thing he can make….a wonderful story!

This piece plays at The Palmerston Library Theatre as part of FringeKids! Performances: July 07 07:15 PM, July 08 11:00 AM, July 09 04:15 PM, July 10 12:45 PM, July 11 02:45 PM, July 13 07:45 PM, July 14 02:15 PM, July 15 03:30 PM

Terry Pratchett’s Mort

From Press release: Terry Pratchett’s Mort is a stage adaptation of the fourth novel in Pratchett’s awardwinning
Discworld series. It tells the story of the anthropomorphic personification of Death and his hapless apprentice Mort, and how both are caught between duty and the appeal of human connection; Death is lured away from his work by the joys of an extended holiday, while Mort threatens the balance of the universe through a misguided (well, hormone‐guided) attempt to save the life of a beautiful princess.

This is a site-specific piece that plays at University College Qudrangle – 15 King’s College Circle. Performances: July 07 07:00 PM, July 08 02:00 PM, July 13 07:00 PM, July 14 07:00 PM, July 15 02:00 PM

The Omega Project

From Press release: What would you do to hold on to the ones you love? Would you create a lie, or stand up to one? Welcome to The Omega Project, by Toronto-based Glasswater Theatre. Set in 2015, we as audience are cast in the role of new members at a workshop for the fictional organization FLIP. We are introduced to Daniel and Lindsey Cooper who worked with FLIP during the uprising in Egypt that birthed the Arab Spring. Daniel loved working with FLIP, but Lindsey seems to know something that he doesn’t. As the workshop progresses, it becomes obvious that the truth FLIP is presenting isn’t quite right. Who’s lying, and what does that mean?

This is a site-specific piece that plays at Trinity-St.Paul’s United Church, 427 Bloor St. W. Performances: July 05 07:00 PM, July 06 08:00 PM, July 07 02:00 PM, July 08 04:00 PM, July 09 08:00 PM, July 10 03:00 PM, July 11 02:00 PM, July 12 05:00 PM, July 13 08:00 PM, July 14 08:00 PM, July 15 04:00 PM

Then He Wakes Up

From Press release: Henry’s life is absurd. He wakes, he waits, he works. Felix is here to change that.

Every day the same dream. On a day like every other Henry shows up for his bus so he can get to work on time. On this day waits the mysterious Felix, standing perfectly still, anticipating Henry’s arrival. Little does Henry know that Felix is here to change his life. At least that’s what Felix wants. With the arrival of other absurd
characters including Henry’s schoolyard crush and his scolding, anecdotal father, Felix finds himself racing to break Henry out of his monotonous cycle and get him to live his life, before he wakes up and has to do the whole thing over again.

This piece plays at the Theatre Passe Muraille Mainspace. Performances: July 05 10:30 PM, July 07 11:30 PM, July 08 02:15 PM, July 11 04:15 PM, July 12 03:30 PM, July 14 07:00 PM, July 15 01:00 PM
