A Young Lady’s Guide to Vivisection

From press release:

Vivisection: (from Latin vivus, “alive” and sectio, “cutting”). Grave-robbing! Cat dissections! Petticoats! Based on a bizarrely true story, this gruesome dramedy follows the Queen’s University medical class of 1884 as they adjust to the first lady students, new scientific ideas, and the marvelously mad world of Victorian medicine.

This piece plays at the Helen Gardiner Phelan Playhouse. Performances: July 04 10:30 PM, July 06 05:15 PM, July 08 06:45 PM, July 09 12:45 PM, July 10 01:45 PM, July 13 08:45 PM, July 14 01:45 PM

Battle of the Bastards

From press release:

Fresh from the New Zealand International Comedy Festival comes a grisly and raucously funny twist on a Shakespearean classic. Christchurch carnie David Ladderman is here to harness the power of sword fights, Elizabethan cussing, and a squishy pumpkin.

This piece plays at Tarragon Mainspace. Performances: July 05 10:30 PM, July 06 09:15 PM, July 07 06:30 PM, July 09 01:15 PM, July 10 02:15 PM, July 12 03:30 PM, July 13 08:00 PM

Or Be Eaten

From press release:

When street youth Ash hears the legend of a lost neighbourhood in downtown Toronto, he sets off on a quest
to find a new home. His journey leads him beneath the city, through an abandoned TIC tunnel and into an unchecked
urban wilderness deep underground. It isn’t long before he’s fighting for his life against a pack of riotous
rats, a conniving crow, and a malnourished troll. In these subterranean tunnels where everyone’s hungry,
will Ash eat or be eaten?

This piece plays at St. Vladimir’s Theatre. Performances: July 09 02:45 PM, July 11 05:15 PM, July 12 09:45 PM, July 13 07:00 PM

Much Ado About Nothing

From press release:

The creative team that brought you the 2012 Best of Fringe Winner The Taming of the Shrew is at it again, bringing Shakespeare’s uproarious, clever, and at times dark comedy Much Ado About Nothing to the Victory Café! The show centres on a battle of wits between Benedick (James Wallis) and Beatrice (Amelia Sargisson). Hilarity ensues as the couple succumbs to the gossip, rumors and “notings” of their families.

This piece plays at Victory Cafe. Performances: July 07 05:00 PM, July 09 07:00 PM, July 11 07:00 PM, July 12 07:00 PM, July 13 07:00 PM, July 14 05:00 PM

Genesis & Other Stories

From press release:

After his father’s death, Christopher, a theology student, leads a misfit cast of amateur actors in a production of his late father’s play: a hyper-sexed version of Adam and Eve set in 1960′s USA. Slapstick, satire, and meta-theatre frame a surprisingly complex story about lonely people trying to fill roles on and offstage which don’t match who they truly are.

This piece plays at Trinity St. Paul’s Chapel. Performances: July 07 08:00 PM, July 09 09:00 PM, July 10 09:00 PM, July 11 09:00 PM, July 12 09:00 PM, July 13 09:00 PM, July 14 08:00 PM

Contest Rules:
(these will remain the same for each Fringe contest, so take the time to read the list once and you’ll be set)

  • The only acceptable form of entry for the contest is by email, sent to contests@mooneyontheatre.com (Mooney on Theatre will never use your email address for anything other than to reply to the specific contest you entered, and we certainly would never sell it or anything like that)
  • Each show counts as its own contest, and each entry must be in a separate email. So, if 5 shows are giving tickets away on a given day, and you want to try for each of them, then you need to send 5 emails.
  • Entrants must be available on the day and time listed in the contest. The tickets are available for that showing only, and cannot be transferred to another date.
  • The winning entrants will be chosen by a random drawing.
  • Winners will be notified by email by 9pm on the day of contest closing and need to confirm their attendance 10am AT THE LATEST the following morning so that their names can be given to the theatre company for tickets to be set aside.
  • Photo I.D. may be required to claim the winning tickets.
  • Tickets must be picked up 60 to 30 minutes before show time at the venue box office. The box office reserves the right to release any tickets not picked up 15 minutes before show time.
  • We ask that all winners provide us with a quick blurb on what they thought of the show, either in the comments section of the press release on Mooney on Theatre, or if it has already been reviewed by Mooney on Theatre in the comments section of that.
