I think therefore I’m Graham (Laugh Gallery) 2014 Toronto Fringe Review

I think therefore I’m Graham (by Laugh Gallery playing at the Toronto Fringe) is a hilarious, laid back stand-up show that is best enjoyed after a couple of drinks with a bunch of friends. Luckily, that seemed to be the atmosphere on the sold-out opening night I attended. We got there about 20 minutes before the show and not only was the show fully sold-out but the waiting list was full as well, so my date didn’t get in. And I really wish he had since Graham Clark’s routine is a non-stop laugh riot with little bits of audience participation which the audience really got into.

During the hour long show Clark talks about being Canadian, living in Vancouver, eating ridiculous food, pursuing his dream of being a comic and other funny stories. When you buy your ticket to the show you also receive a trivial pursuit card which is used to play a game. Don’t worry all you have to do is ask him a question and if he answers it correctly, you win a prize.

The prizes themselves were hilarious last night. They’re literally junk from a thrift store but that’s what makes it so damn funny. We had Michael Bolton’s biography, a Harlequin romance novel, a Harry Potter wand and a Tupac Shakur t-shirt, amongst other things. I’m sure the show is a little different every time depending on the “prizes” Clark is giving out and the books he’s reading from.

People generally tend to shy away from audience participation, but not at this show. Everyone got right into the questions and there was excitement around the cheesy prizes. I encourage everyone to grab a couple of friends and check out this show. It’s feels like spending an evening at a comedy bar while watching a really great headliner. I won’t be surprised if the show is sold-out for it’s entire run so get your tickets now.
