Cheap Theatre for the Week of September 30th, 2014

Sometimes it can be fun to go see theatre that’s entirely based on the writer’s imagination – they might be set in the real world, but the characters and events are all made up. This week’s Cheap Theatre, however, is a collection of shows that take their inspiration from real-life individuals and/or events. And you’ll be inspired by the cost! It’ll cost only $25 or less to see any of these shows! Check out the list below.

Glenn by David Young (Soulpepper Theatre). Two versions of Bach’s Goldberg Variations frame this look at iconic Canadian artist Glenn Gould. Previews Aug 26-Sep 1. The Fun Palace Radio Variety Show (Small Wooden Shoe). Historical vaudevilles and revues are mashed up with radio and TV programs, contemporary theatre and podcasts in a show with actors, comics, musicians and storytellers. Julie Madly Deeply by Sarah-Louise Young (Mirvish/Seabright Productions). Young performs a musical solo tribute to Julie Andrews. Our Country’s Good by Timberlake Wertenbaker (Out of Joint/Mirvish). A lieutenant stages a play with a cast of convicts and marines on Britain’s new penal colony in 1789 Australia.
