SCAT – Toronto Fringe 2017 Press Release

From the press release:

SCAT by Laugh Serious Theatre will be premiering at the 2017 Toronto Fringe Festival, this summer, from July 5th – July 16th, 2016 at Queen West Community Health Centre, 168 Bathurst Street, Toronto, ON, M5V 2R4.

Laugh Serious theatre takes audiences to the bathroom with SCAT, a site-specific show about the history of bathrooms and how they are used and misused.

Told from the perspective of women, queer and trans people, SCAT travels through ancient Rome, the Medieval and Victorian eras, the police entrapment of gay men in bathrooms, segregated bathrooms and high school bathrooms. Through humour, violence and intimate interactions SCAT is about this very human necessity, for many an unfortunate necessity.

“We hope to raise questions to the audience about the social norms and conditioning we have all experienced around bathrooms, bathroom etiquette, the gendering of bathrooms and the safety of bathrooms.” – Sadie Epstein-Fine (Director)

SCAT, directed by Sadie Epstein-Fine and Winnie Nwakobi, features an outstanding 3-person ensemble: Aman Banwait; Christol Bryan; RJ Lim Daunt. The creative team is comprised of Aman Banwait (Sound Design); Sadie Epstein-Fine (Playwright); Jocelyn Graham (Costume/Set Design); Madeleine M
