lockeyeLockeye & Pond in Death Killing Machine by Lockeye & Pond is currently playing at the Annex Theatre for this year’s Toronto Fringe Festival. Lockeye and Pond are the spoofs or at least the ridiculous doppelgangers of characters in the classic Ian Fleming novels and the 007 movies. Pond is a hot-shot spy known for always saving the day. Lockeye is the evil villain whose plans are always foiled by Pond. And yes, he literally has a lock for an eye.

Water Choke (The Genuine Human Moment) 2015 Toronto Fringe Review

The show directed by Ray Jacildo, and performed and written by Elliot Maxwell, is an exploration of masculinity. The piece sheds light on the emotional and physical consequences men face when they fall short of what a “real man” is.

Porn and Pinochet (Caturro Productions) 2015 Fringe Review

 

Porn & Pinochet is a solo show from Andy Cañete. The strength of this show lies in Cañete’s ‘Everyman’ appeal. He’s willing to be vulnerable. He’s charming and likeable, funny and self-deprecating. He’s the fun guy at the party, spinning tales and keeping everyone laughing. As Cañete reveals right off the top, his background is in stand-up comedy as well as acting, and that style of delivery is very much in evidence throughout the show.

The Orchid and the Crow (Button Eye Productions) 2015 Toronto Fringe Review

After watching Daniel Tobias’s The Orchid and the Crow (playing at the Al Green Theatre during this year’s Toronto Fringe Festival), I have no words to offer except for some time-honoured reviewer clichés: I laughed! I cried! It was a darkly humourous tour-de-force! In all seriousness, I thoroughly enjoyed The Orchid and the Crow. It was an absolute blast, it was absolutely devastating, and, best of all, it was chock-full of great song numbers.
