FULCRUM THEATRE announces Here, an original multi-media dance theatre piece.

Some of the girls say Emily threw herself in front of a bus. And some of them say she did it for attention. Either way, she’s never going to dance again. Here combines multimedia and dance elements to tell the story of a dancer who shreds a major ligament in her knee, forcing her to cope with a world where her dreams will never be realized. Surprisingly, it’s a comedy.Here is the third original piece by writer/director Aaron Jan produced by Hamilton youth company Fulcrum Theatre. Fulcrum was formed in May 2011 by five undergraduates who felt seperate from the theatre scene in Hamilton. Together, they pooled what little money they had, rented a venue and began rehearsing their very first show. This is Fulcrum’s third year of production and Here is their first production outside of Hamilton.

Here features performers Jacqueline Byers, Erica Charles, Jessie Cox, Farhang Ghajar and Greg Solomon, and is directed and written by Aaron Jan. Last year, Aaron participated in the Paprika Festival at Tarragon Theatrewith Drafts, a play that Fulcrum remounted at the Hamilton Fringe Festival, winning the Best of Fringe. Past productions by this company have had cast members as young as fifteen, and the creative

The Spur-Of-The-Moment Shakespeare Collective brings an interactive showcase of the Shakespeare-In-Hospitals Program to the 2013 Toronto Fringe Festival Shed Show. Patrons become patients with this twisted taste of the project’s one-on-one patient visitations.

The process is led this year by an all-star cast of collaborative and classical actors and directors alike, including FringeKids! regular, Michael Man, Shakespeare-On-The-Subway’s Victoria Urquhart, and Urban Bard’s Scott Moyle and Adrianna Prosser.

What is The Soaps! A Live Improvised Soap Opera?

We’re taking Toronto’s most prolific comedic improvisers and creating an ongoing improvised story packed with drama, romance, intrigue and betrayal! Armed with nothing more than a director, a setting and some unscrupulous characters, the audience is treated to plot twists and passion that even the actors can’t predict…

How it works
After the setting for the show has been decided, it’s time for each improviser to create a character that they will bring to life for each performance.

The show opens with an introduction from our director, each character is introduced and has a “hot 30”, a 30-second monologue where the improviser can catch the audience up on their plot line, expose a secret desire or reveal their nefarious plans.

Then, the director takes us to one of 4 environments that have been set on the stage and calls up various characters for the scene.

As the show goes on, characters are betrayed, backs are stabbed and hearts are broken.

The Soaps! has been a weekly show at the Comedy Bar in Toronto and a sold out hit two years running at the Toronto Fringe. Some past settings of The Soaps! have been the “Shawford Theatre Festival”; the town of Utopia where the soap industry reigned supreme; and the War of 1812.

Honest Aesopʼs Fables is ready to take FringeKids! by storm at the 2013 Toronto Fringe. Based on the stories attributed to Greek writer Aesop, the show is a fun and energetic look at what it means to tell stories in a modern age. Audience will recognize the timeless tales being told, but enjoy the twists and turns that the show takes as it unfolds at the Palmerston Library Theatre.

During the creation process, Tarradiddle Productions brought together 6 actors, a director, musical director and designer to find new meaning in the classic fables. Asking themselves why these stories matter, the team created an original play that incorporates both the essence of the original fables as well as new settings for the characters. Stories like “The Tortoise and the Hare” and “The Honest Woodsman” find new life in this engaging performance told with a hint of commedia dellʼarte for good measure. The show is infused with music that joins the stories in a seamless manner.

Featuring a cast of talented creators and performers and directed by Harold Award-winning director Teodoro Dragonieri, Honest Aesopʼs Fables is a fast-paced, hilarious look at the modern fable for children ages 4 to 104.

Opens JULY 4, 2013 and runs to JULY 13, 2013
