Orson Welles/Shylock (The Shylock Project) explores the life of Director/Writer/Producer/Genius/Diva and overall artist, Orson Welles. By drawing parallels between his life and Shakespeare‘s character from The Merchant of Venice, Shylock, we learn a bit about Welles’ love-hate relationship with Hollywood and insecurities as a filmmaker. Playing at the Factory Studio Theatre (125 Bathurst St) for this year’s Toronto Fringe Festival, this show gives you a sense of what the film industry is like through a theatrical lens.

Persephone (Pencil Kit Productions) 2016 Toronto Fringe Review

Using movement, dance, spoken word, sound, projections, and artistic lighting, the team from Pencil Kit Productions have brought the tale of Persephone to life at the Helen Gardiner Phelan theatre during this year’s Toronto Fringe Festival. The result of their efforts is a performance that is both sumptuous and stunning.

In the Trenches: A Double Feature (That Dog Was A Band Now) 2016 Toronto Fringe Review

A two-in-one show of slapstick followed by  Commedia dell’Arte, In The Trenches: A Double Feature by That Dog Was a Band Now, is a physical romp about war and love. It is playing at the Tarragon Theatre Mainspace as part of the 2016 Toronto Fringe Festival.

Lyricas Presents: Creature Slaying in the Key of G (Lyricas) 2016 Toronto Fringe Review

Who are you going to call when you need an exorcist? Why, the rock duo Lyricas, of course!  LYRICAS Presents: Creature Slaying in the Key of G by Lyricas,  is playing at the Helen Gardiner Phelan Playhouse as part of the 2016 Toronto Fringe Festival.

Sadly, this rock comedy show in its battle against evil has some demons of its own to defeat before I’d recommend checking it out.
