Vectors of Their Interest (Surplus-Value Theatre) 2014 Toronto Fringe Review

Surplus-Value Theatre presents Vectors of Their Interest at this year’s Toronto Fringe Festival, a bizarre and twisted dark comedy about the struggles of the unpaid intern. It’s a struggle many of us fresh-paint recent graduates endure — the bright-eyed, bushy-tailed ‘I’ll do anything to make an impression’ attitude regardless of how utterly off-the-wall the boss’ request may be. And in this story, it’s weirder than most.

Valkyrie (Rarely Pure Theatre) 2014 Toronto Fringe Review

“Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned” is the underlying base line for Rarely Pure Theatre‘s Valkyrie debuting at this year’s Toronto Fringe Festival. This is a powerhouse of a story that speaks to any woman, or anyone really, who has ever been cheated on by a lover, undermined by a member of the opposite (or same) sex, or has ever received one of these texts.

Erin (Tara Koehler) and Bradley (Monique Renaud) are two girlfriends on a mission — exacting bloody revenge on cheating men, particularly those with a knack for treating women like property.

Euripedes’ The Trojan Women (Randolph Academy) 2014 Toronto Fringe Review

The Trojan Women was written by Greek playwright Euripides produced in 415 BC detailing the lives of the women of Troy after the fall of their city. Talking Fringe – Rafael Antonio Renderos from Salvador Playing at Toronto Fringe 2014

Last year playwright Rafael Antonio Renderos visited his family home in El Salvador, during that journey he reflected upon his life as a gay man and how different it could be if his parents hadn’t escaped the civil war. While exploring gay culture in that area, Rafael encountered an environment riddled with violence.

With World Pride just on the horizon for Toronto, it’s the perfect time for Rafael to debut Salvador at the Toronto Fringe, a production created after numerous interviews with homosexual individuals living in El Salvador. I took a moment to speak with Rafael about his show and the impact World Pride has on it. Keep reading for our conversation below.
