Cirque du Soleil continues its evolution with the Toronto production of Totem.
Last night Totempremiered under the Grand Chapiteau, custom-designed blue and yellow tents located in downtown Toronto’s industrial Port Lands.
Inspired by the 200th anniversary of Charles Darwin’s birth, this iteration celebrates the evolution of mankind from its amphibian state to its aspiration of flight and the cosmos. Renowned Canadian director Robert Lepage, who previously worked with Cirque on the show KÀ at the MGM Grand Resort in Las Vegas, collaborates once again with the circus company to create this new visionary performance.
Most of you, I’m assuming, spent this past long weekend lounging on your cottage deck. Well, the weekend’s over and it’s time to get out and see some theatre. Some cheap live theatre in the city of Toronto, to be exact. This week we have five shows for you to watch that cost under $20.
And on August 4th, the long-awaited SummerWorks Theatre Festival will begin. SummerWorks tickets are only $15 each, and money-saving passes are available too. Mooney on Theatre will be providing extensive coverage on every single show in the Festival. Stay tuned this week for all the SummerWorks reviews you can handle!

Toronto puppetry and bicycle-infused theatre
delight at Dufferin Grove Park
I came to Dufferin Grove Park thinking I was about to see a humble little outdoor play with simple costumes. Surprisingly, The Pedaler’s Wager turned out to be much different than expected.
As weird as it sounds, this little puppet musical got me a little teary-eyed within the first five minutes. It must have been a combination of the beautiful music, the children’s attention fixed upon the enormous puppets, and the cough syrup I had ingested earlier that morning.
