New translation of German play brings insane circus to Toronto

…What to say about Woyzeck?  You know those plays you go and see when you’re in the mood for some simple entertainment that doesn’t require any deep thought?  Red Light District’s Woyzeck, currently playing at the Lower Ossington Theatre, is not one of those plays.  It’s odd, it’s abstract and it’s definitely something you need to be in the mood for.  If you ARE in the mood for it though, it’s definitely worth checking out. The world may be ending, but The Experts have arrived at the Toronto Festival of Clowns just in time to save us all

A Toronto stage becomes a hospital’s rooftop garden in a play about the meaning of life

Cold Storage, written by Ronald Ribman in 1977, was originally presented in New York City. It is a two act play, and more or less a two man play. Both acts take place on a hospital roof garden in New York City. It is now playing at University of Toronto’s George Ignatieff Theatre.

Fenulla Jiwani brings popular play back to Toronto until June 12th

Before I write this review for Fenstar Productions’ 30 Dates, being remounted at the Berkeley Street Theatre Upstairs, let me allow for a little disclosure.

I am a 30-something single woman.  My partner for the show, Joanne, is also a 30-something single woman.  The main character of 30 Dates is, yup, a 30-something single woman.

We figured the show could go two ways.  Either we would find the play to be entertaining, funny and relatable, or we would leave feeling like a sad societal joke ready to just give up and head for the convent.

Thankfully we found it to be the former, so the convent can wait!
