Review: Sister Act (Lower Ossington Theatre)

LOT’s Sister Act brings the 90’s classic film to the Toronto stage in musical format

You will likely walk out of Sister Act: The Musical, now playing at the Lower Ossington Theatre, with a smile on your face. However, you might not remember anything ten minutes after you walk out that door. The show has a heartwarming message, but features some exceptionally bland book and songwriting, which energetic performances can only take so far.

The chemistry of the nuns’ sisterhood and the standout performance of the Mother Superior are worth seeing. The writing, is, well… nunsense.

WinterSong graces Toronto stages with a somewhat alternative Holiday experience

There’s nothing better than than a little change in pace for the holiday season. Canadian Contemporary Dance Theatre presents a night of dance in WinterSong at the Fleck Dance Theatre.

Preview: Monologue Slam, Season Five Finale (Toronto Monologue Slam)

The Toronto Monologue Slam started in 2011, and is one of Canada’s largest acting showcases, where local actors perform live monologues and compete for the coveted Heavy Weight Champ title belt.

The Season Five Finale will not only give audiences a chance to enjoy an evening of live performances at The Den, but also offers participants a night to share their talents and network with industry professionals.

I spoke to co-founder and executive producer Andre Newell about the event, and here’s what he had to say:
