From press release
June 14, 2011. Toronto, Ontario… Johnny Depp is coming to The Toronto Fringe Festival, at least if Kat Leonard (of Kat & The MP3) has her way! Through an online petition and video campaign, Kat aims for Depp’s attendance at her new show, A Depper Kind of Love, which is a multimedia musical comedy playing at Helen Gardiner Phelan Playhouse from July 7th to July 17th, 2011.
Kat is your typical girl in a world inspired by1980s Madonna and she has a whole lotta love for Depp. In just an hour Kat takes her audiences on a swirling multimedia extravaganza of love, tears and guffaws. As Kat sings and dances about her deeper Depp love, she faces off against her own demons as well as the harsh reality of Depp’s wife, Vanessa Paradis, and eventually learns that she must love herself before she can love anyone else.
A Depper Kind Of Love premieres at The Toronto Fringe Festival in conjunction with the release of Kat & The MP3’s debut CD comprised of songs from the show. These are songs about loving Johnny Depp and the heartbreak of a shattered dream.
Kat Leonard has a degree in Science from York University and a diploma in TV/Film Production from Centennial College. A graduate of The Second City Conservatory, she writes and performs in Toronto. She is the resident “season theme song writer and video producer” at Alumnae Theatre Company.
Director Christopher Sawchyn is one fourth of the comedy group The Specials. He is an accomplished director, choreographer and teacher; credits include work for Mirador Productions, New Teatro and Rogue & Peasant Theatre. He teaches at Seneca College and Toronto Film School.
A Depper Kind Of Love is a crusade to bring Johnny Depp to The Toronto Fringe Festival and heartbreak that never felt so good.
