Dina: The Burlapped Crusader – Toronto Fringe 2012 Press Release

From Press Release

Please Turn On Your Cell Phones
Dina: The Burlapped Crusader is about to take the stage!

We’ve all heard it – that trite announcement at the beginning of a show, a reminder to patrons to please turn off their phones and unwrap those cough candies. Well, not this summer, Toronto! It’s time for a new kind of theatre, a new kind of audience, a new kind of… superhero?

This year, The Toronto Fringe Festival welcomes Dina: the Burlapped Crusader, a new superhero for a new time. She not only wants her audience to leave their cell phones on, but set them to ring. LOUDLY! And to text her during the show – her number is in the program. And she has a twitter feed. And a facebook profile. And a tumbler account. Why? She is desperate to make a connection, and she wants to connect with YOU.

Created and developed by Jenny Salisbury and Claire Acott, this is the dynamic duo’s first venture together – but neither of them are strangers to the Fringe. Both were involved in i – a collective creation that took best in venue in the Ottawa Fringe of 2006. Salisbury directed the smash hit Charles Manson and Timothy Leary in Folsom Prison in the Toronto Fringe of 2009, and Acott starred in Double Double – an audience favourite of Toronto Fringe 2010. They are both active members of the Toronto theatre scene, whose work has been featured on stages across the city.

Don’t miss Dina: The Burlapped Crusader. She’s out to save Toronto, one over-connected citizen at a time!
