Review: Apprentice to Murder: You’re Fired (Mysteriously Yours…)

Three courses of murder at Toronto’s Mysteriously Yours… dinner theatre.

If you loved Nancy Drew, the Hardy Boys, and Agatha Christie growing up, and/or love The Apprentice, you’ll definitely enjoy Apprentice To Murder: You’re Fired (Mysteriously Yours…) an interactive Mystery Dinner Theatre show based on Celebrity Apprentice.

Located on Yonge street, just north of Davisville, the Mysteriously Yours… evening consists of a three-course meal (which is, by the way, as delicious as the website claims it is). You start with a soup or salad, have a choice of mains and finish with an extremely indulgent dessert. Alcohol is available but not included in the price of your ticket. Review: Death of a Salesman (Soulpepper)

Soulpepper brings back a great theatre classic with their remount of Death of a Salesman at Toronto’s Young Centre for the Performing Arts.

For a remount of such a frequently-performed piece, Soulpepper still doesn’t blink twice and delivers a wholehearted, well-rounded performance.

Five for Twenty (Or Less)

It’s September. Yesterday’s fresh, summer air is filling with dead leaves, the screams of schoolyard children, and a chill. Maybe seasonal death doesn’t necessarily turn your smile upside down, but returning to work or school does. Or maybe your favorite sweater has come out of hiding and you’re seeing the season as half full. Either way, we could all benefit from a full cup of cheer this time of year. Enter this week’s cheap theatre – comedy. Laugh your way through the changing season, with five comedic plays that will hurt your gut more than your wallet (because they’ll make you laugh ‘til you’re sore…not give you food poisoning). Review: Feral Child (Suburban Beast/Canadian Stage)

Cynthia Asphperger and William Chrisstopher Ellis in Feral Child

Take a walk on Oshawa’s wild side.

There’s an old truism that “you can’t really understand another person’s experience until you’ve walked a mile in their shoes”. Feral Child, now onstage at Berkeley Street Theatre, is about walking in another person’s shoes. I think.

I arrived really early and walked around the neighbourhood, exploring. George Brown College is a huge part of the community and the school year had just started. Young people, new to Toronto, were walking around, finding their bearings as well.
