Lipstique (produced by Mix Mix Collective) really “piqued” my interest when I came across it on the Fringe listings. I saw a picture of possibly the most interesting gang of dancers I’ve ever seen. I just knew I had to check it out at this year’s Toronto Fringe Festival.

I’ve seen shows similar in style to that of NASTY, Maelstrom Art Collective‘s contribution to this year’s Toronto Fringe Festival. It’s not really a play in the standard sort but more a narrative told through movement and spoken word. Not plot driven but point driven and often a student/recent grad manned production. Out of the similar productions I’ve seen, NASTY stands as one of the better ones.

Not Enough, a one-person show starring Megan Phillips currently running in the Toronto Fringe Festival at the Theatre Passe Muraille Mainspace, is a powerful show. Phillips’ compelling performance as a person trying to save herself through a ten-day meditation retreat, built on a heartbreakingly frank script and supported by inventive sound design, is a must-see.

Falling Angel produced by RealSpace Theatre is a site-specific show performing at Shaw Park, next to the CAMH campus on Queen West, as part of the Toronto Fringe Festival.
Written by Erica Wood and Bruce Hunter, the show is described in the Fringe program as “part contemporary vaudevillian comedy with a little existentialist dilemma and a few musical numbers of sorts thrown in.” If that description sounds vague and a bit unfocused, the show matches.
