WILD/WALLED is a daring contemporary dance piece exploring the barriers put on us by society and the “wildness” within us that fights against them. It is produced by Half Second Echo in association with Alison Daley and Tracy Norman.
The “F” Word, produced by SaMel Tanz, is a dance show that celebrates being a woman in all of it’s glory — bras and all. Everything from Modern technique to Argentine Tango to Krump was explored, each number having it’s own unique approach to a different topic surrounding feminism.
Lipstique (produced by Mix Mix Collective) really “piqued” my interest when I came across it on the Fringe listings. I saw a picture of possibly the most interesting gang of dancers I’ve ever seen. I just knew I had to check it out at this year’s Toronto Fringe Festival.
Anesti Danelis is just a boy with a guitar who wants to find the love that’s gone missing in this topsy-turvy world. In his show, “Songs For A New World Order” produced by his own company, Third Wheel; the audience is taken through a series of clever songs about everything from slow walkers on the TTC to accidentally kidnapping babies all tied up in an optimistic bow. Shove It Down My Throat brought raw, living theatre to the Toronto stage
Judging by the title alone, I knew I was in for an edgy night of theatre and I definitely got it.
Pandemic Theatre Company‘s Shove It Down My Throat, which played for one night only as part of the Buddies In Bad Times Residency Program, is a docu-play investigating a series of stabbings at a LGBTQ New Year’s Eve Party back in 2013. Johnny Walker has written emails to Luke O’Donovan, the gay teen who was thrown in jail for committing the act. Johnny enlists his friends to help him find the truth of what really happened that night, and finds out once and for all whether or not Luke is the gay rights poster boy he thought he was.
