Megan loves being in the thick of all things theatre, but her ultimate goal is to promote theatre to the world of non-theatre people. It was the same when she was the theatre writer for blogTO, or the Fringe Correspondent for CBC Radio One‘s Here and Now, as it is as the founder of Mooney on Theatre. Her basic belief is that there is theatre/performance out there for everyone to love, they just need to find it. This is not to be confused with the idea that everyone should love theatre for theatre’s sake, in fact, as obsessed as she is with theatre, even *she* doesn’t love all types of theatre.

Phone Whore (Cameryn Moore) 2010 Toronto Fringe Review

By Megan Mooney

I don’t usually outline the premise of a show in my reviews, I figure this is the Internet, you can all find out what the plot of the show, and want to know about the specific production.  With Cameryn Moore’s Phone Whore though, I think some context plot-wise will be useful, because it’s a fantastic show, but you probably should know a bit about what you’re letting yourself in for.

Fringe For Free! The Flying Avro Arrow Thurs July 1 at 8pm

contest-web-graphic Apparently we’re in musical mode right now.  Last night we had a draw and sent someone to see the musical comedy Joe White and the Seven Divorcees for free.  Tonight we’re going to do a draw for a pair of tickets to The Flying Avro Arrow, another musical comedy.

This is one that Mooney on Theatre has already reviewed, sort of.  It was involved in the 2010 New Ideas Festival at Alumnae Theatre and Sam checked it out.  She loved it.

In fact, I’m pretty sure she’s going to the show tonight…

For your chance to win a pair of free tickets to tonight’s 8pm show, just send an email to contests@mooneyontheatre.com with the subject line "Avro Arrow Contest".  A random draw will be held for the winner at 6pm.  Include your name in the email, and if you have a cell number, include it so that if you win, we can text you and let you know.

As always, we won’t do anything untoward with your email address, the only thing we’ll use it for is this specific contest.

Check out The Flying Avro Arrow press release below for more information.

Okay, so, the title of this one is actually longer than the above subject heading would suggest. The full title is:  The Shakespeare Show: Or, how an illiterate son of a Glover became the Greatest Playwright in the World The show is as fun as the title.

Since the mid 1800s people have been debating who actually wrote Shakespeare’s plays, and there have been several different opinions put forward about several different potential writers.  The most common and viable one put forward these days is Edward de Vere, the 17th Earl of Oxford.  This play presents us with what that might have looked like.
