This week’s Cheap Theatre is all about the LIFT OFF! Festival, which is taking place this coming weekend. The Cahoots Theatre Company holds this community festival of readings,
workshops & performances every year to share some of the new works they’re working to create. And did I mention that it’s totally free? All events take place at Cahoots Creation Studio, at 388 Queen St.E, Unit 3. Check out the full list of events at http://www.cahoots.ca/programs/lift-off/.

Cheap Theatre for the Week of June 20th

We all have the occasional struggle in life, whether or not it’s actually something serious. The shows in this week’s Cheap Theatre listings all feature characters facing their own personal struggles, ranging from a trio of brothers seeking to regain their fortune, to a crazed fan coming to terms with a famous couple’s split, to queer performers questioning the nature of burlesque performance art. But hopefully you won’t struggle with the choice to go out and see some Cheap Theatre – tickets to each show are available for $20 or less! Check them out below.

Cheap Theatre for the Week of June 10th

One of the most exciting things about theatre is its power to inspire more than one interpretation of the same story. The shows in this week’s Cheap Theatre list all investigate the idea of reinterpretation. Some play with the traditional genders of characters (and performers) in Shakespearean plays. See our suggested shows below:

This week’s Cheap Theatre features a number of productions that are sure to get you thinking, all for $20 or less. So you can get lost in thought without losing your money.

Cheap Theatre for the Week of May 27th

I doubt it’s news to anybody that there’s a ton of condos being built all over town. That’s why I was so happy to hear that Crow’s Theatre was bucking the condo trend by creating a new space in Leslieville, slated to open in 2016. As a hello to the neighbourhood, they’re running a theatre festival called the East End Performance Crawl.

It’s a series of shows taking place in found spaces (that is, not inside theatres) while they’re waiting for their new home to open. They’ve got a lot of cool shows participating in the festival. Some of them are listed below, but there’s a lot more on their website. Some shows are free, some are only $15 – they even have a 5 shows for $50 offer! So come out to support the East End Performance Crawl, and see some Cheap Theatre!
