About Allegra (Come From Away Productions) 2014 Toronto Fringe Review

About Allegra is the story of an affair, an affair between a married mom and the young, attractive student taking residence in her basement. Sound like The Graduate? Yes, yes it does.

This sexually charged cat and mouse story of seduction is playing at this year’s Toronto Fringe Festival and it’ll surely get the temperatures rising, but unfortunately it also left me wanting more.

Blair (played by Simu Liu) is the student that moves into Allegra’s (Megan MacDonald) basement. Slowly the two meet as Allegra ventures downstairs to use the laundry room and soon begin passionate yet delicate affair behind Megan’s husband’s back. The story is told in flashback scenes and dialogue as if both are speaking to a counselor or therapist.

GUNSHOT (ReActive Dance Theatre) 2014 Toronto Fringe Review

I never thought I would review a dance show. I’m the type of guy who indulges in the musical contributions of AC/DC and appreciates a well timed fart joke. But this afternoon I watched GUNSHOT (ReActive Dance Theatre) which is currently playing as part of the Toronto Fringe Festival. I learned two things from watching this show: 1. I’m extremely out of shape and 2. Dance Theatre is much more captivating than I thought.

Tarrare: A Story of Hunger (Suspicious Moustache Productions) 2014 Toronto Fringe Review

Tarrare can eat anything: not just food, and not just flesh, but books, corks, bones, solid metal… And lord, how he hungers. This Toronto Fringe Festival story explores the life and times of a real historical figure, probing his journey from urchin to showman to soldier to spy, and how his lust to consume would prove his undoing.
