Toronto – Door in Foot Theatre Initiative will arrive in Toronto with a new production of the highly acclaimed play, Blackbird by David Harrower.
Door in Foot Theatre Initiative is a new exciting company, evolving from Carter Thor Studios East, an acting for film studio that pushes students to break new ground, and be the true storytellers that they are. This new production company brings together a restless group of actors, writers, directors, producers and filmmakers to create a new theatrical experience by focusing productions down to the relationship between the people on stage and words that they speak.
David Harrowers script, Blackbird, is described as an “intense psychodrama”. This Olivier Award Winning script has received critical acclaim both in London and off-Broadway runs. Blackbird follows the tale of Ray (Jock MacDonald) and Una (Isabel Farias) who once had a passionate affair when he was 40 and she was 12. The play investigates the answers we look for and not the vengeance we seek, when Una arrives unannounced at his work, 15 years later. This shattering and mesmerizing piece has been described as a “miracle” by the The New York Times.
Door in Foot Theatre Initiative brings this “remarkable play” to life with the talented cast featuring: Isabel Farias (founding member of the repertoire company Teatro Grupo Graxa), Jock MacDonald (founding member of Los Angeles based acting studio Carter Thor and coach amongst its chapters all along the East Coast), and introducing Haylee Wanstall (Cheaper by the Dozen 2 & Queer as Folk), this will be a production not to be missed.
We are so thrilled to offer Blackbird to Toronto audiences as our first production. A gutsy new play with a new kind of theatre acting where the truth of film acting meets with the thrill of live theatre. Showcasing that at a grass roots level we can be the most extraordinary artists and can touch people’s hearts and help make a change.
