Review: War Horse (Mirvish)

War Horse is a visual feast and is on stage at the Princess of Wales Theatre in Toronto

I was blown away by beauty of the staging and effects while watching War Horse at Mirvish’s Princess of Wales Theatre.

When it comes to visual elements and design, this is one of the most spectacular shows I’ve seen. My show partner for the piece, Mooney on Theatre’s Managing Editor Wayne Leung, remarked that “Since they weren’t going for a hyper-realistic effect it opened them up to the exploration of amazing stagecraft.” I totally agree.

Seeds is currently onstage at The Young Centre for the Performing Arts. The reinvigorated Distillery District in downtown Toronto is where the play takes place.

Seeds is a play about who controls just that, seeds. Since making booze is all about seed manipulation, could there be a more perfect place than The Distillery District for such a play?

Review: The Shakespeare Challenge (Shakespeare in Action)

Shakespeare in Action does a terrific job with A Midsummers Night’s Dream at Toronto’s Arts and Letters Club

Take a group of dedicated volunteers and interns, add nine community members – not necessarily actors – then add six rehearsals with a professional director, shake it up a bit and you have The Shakespeare Challenge; the first annual (I hope) benefit for Shakespeare in Action.
