THEATRE STENDHAL ANNOUNCES WORLD PREMIERE OF ORIGINAL NEW WORK

‘CHRIST CHRIST CHRIST’

A SITE SPECIFIC PERFORMANCE- PART OF THE 2012 TORONTO FRINGE FESTIVAL

In the mid-20th century, a zealous psychiatrist, desperate for recognition in his field, brings together three patients from three separate psychiatric institutions who all seem to have something unusual in common; they all believe themselves to be Jesus Christ.

CHRISTCHRISTCHRIST brings an intimate audience into the day-room of this institution- filled with the minutiae of hospital life- to witness one of the daily meetings between these extraordinary gentlemen and their unethical Doctor. Underscored by live accompaniment, CHRISTCHRISTCHRIST will be a truly engaging and unique theatrical experience.

Theatre Stendhal was founded by Artistic Director, and Director of CHRISTCHRISTCHRIST; Alexis Eastman. Alexis began the company as a way to devise not only new works, but also new methods of creation.

The majority of the show was developed by essentially holding and improvising the meetings that occurred before the one the audience is invited to see. We truly created the world they lived in-all of the other meetings or incidents that these characters will refer to actually happened. We developed the shape of the show and important moments along the way, but ultimately, how we get there is up to the talented artists who comprise the cast of CHRISTCHTISTCHRIST and thus, no two shows could possibly be the same.

THEATRE STENDHAL believes authenticity in theatre is paramount. As emerging artists, rather than be crippled by inexperience, we are freed by our ignorance. We are inventing our own way to engage audiences and create authentic work and have no rules to stop us; this is clear in our unique, exciting and genuine work-

CHRISTCHRISTCHRIST.
