Photo of Erin Humpfrey, Vanessa Campbell, Braelyn Guppy, Amy Swift, Hugh Ritchie, Kevin Forster, John Wamsley, Hart House Theatre’s rendition of this campy musical is “imaginative” and “unique”, on stage in Toronto

The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee is now in session at the Hart House Theatre and after personally seeing four productions of this campy musical comedy in my lifetime, I’ve decided that Hart House’s rendition is by far the most imaginative and unique I’ve ever seen.

Review: Daughter (The Theatre Centre/QuipTake)

Exploring the dark side of manhood and toxic masculinity, Daughter is on stage in Toronto

Daughter, onstage now at the Theatre Centre, dives into the dark side of fatherhood and manhood, ostensibly in a critique of toxic masculinity. It’s a compelling performance from Adam Lazarus, a well known figure in Toronto’s clown community. He’s also the writer, blending elements of autobiography into the story. Review: Grease (Irregular Entertainment)

The classic rock n’ roll musical Grease takes over the Winter Garden Theatre in Toronto

There are, I discovered last night at the Winter Garden Theatre for the new Toronto production of Grease, a LOT of people in Toronto who are really excited about the classic musical. Like, dress-up-like-the-characters level stoked. I wasn’t able to poll all of them after the opening on Thursday, but the general mood of the people around me was…rather mixed. Though the show’s production values were high and the cast included some very talented people, the production as a whole never really gelled for me.
