When I told my four and a half year old son, Max, we were going to a play at FringeKids! he was ecstatic. This is actually his third Fringe Festival. When I told him we were going to see A Midsummer Night’s Dream…A Puppet Epic! he was over the moon. Likely more about the puppet aspect than the Shakespeare part, but hey, you never know, right!?! Okay, well, maybe you know.
Now, in the regular Fringe reviewing time for MoT this show already got a great review by a grown up, so this is going to focus mostly on what the kids thought.
Okay, so, that title of this article sounds a little strange, since this is the first in what I imagine will be a series of pieces in a “Megan Loves” series.
Obviously what I’m saying is I loved Monster Theatre’s piece currently at Toronto Fringe, written and performed by Bruce Horak, which happens to be called Assassinating Thomson. While there is much speculation around the iconic Canadian artist’s death, I can confirm absolutely and without a doubt that *I* did not kill the man.
I loved this show. Which is good, because I’ve been dying to see it since I first heard of it, and sometimes being that excited about a piece can set me up for disappointment.
Yay! It’s summer! Time for Fringe; my new favourite time of year.
I can hardly wait for the Toronto Fringe to start on July 3rd. I’m as excited as a kid waiting for her birthday. (Actually, technically July 3rd is my birthday, but I’m much more excited about Fringe.)
When I say “Fringe” I mean the Toronto Fringe Festival, an annual theatre (and more) festival that turns 25 this year. I’ve fallen into the habit of saying “Fringe” and assuming that everyone knows what it is. I’m amazed when I’m met with blank stares in response to my excited exclamations of “Fringe starts next week!”
On Tuesday afternoon I finally got to see The 8th Day playing as part of the Toronto Fringe Festival and I loved it. It’s a very funny show. I had started to think it just wasn’t going to happen. This was Mooney on Theatre’s third try. Missed it last week because of a streetcar delay. Missed it on Monday because of the storm. Today I got to a block north of Queen on Bathurst and the power was out! Even though I wasn’t feeling very hopeful I decided to walk to Theatre Passe Muraille and see if they had power. They did! Yay! Continue reading The 8th Day (ChickenWing Theatre) 2013 Toronto Fringe Review→
LIZA LIVE! is possibly the best overall performance I have seen this year at The Toronto Fringe Festival. It is being put on at The Annex Theatre by Total Betty Productions and you won’t want to miss it.
Jennifer Walls as Liza Minnelli (“that’s Liza with a Z not an S”) takes us a lot deeper into Liza’s life and thoughts than I expected. I was expecting only kitschy Liza fun, but was so happily surprised by how much heart this piece has. I feel it has a very inspiring and positive message.
