For Canadians of a certain age who remember the constitutional debates of the 1990s, the idea that separatism could inspire a interactive sketch comedy might seem counterintuitive. Let’s Start A Country!, a show in the Toronto Fringe Festival currently playing at the Tarragon Theatre Mainspace, does just that and succeeds, thanks to the originality of its premise and the skill of its actors.

norah patonI couldn’t get into Egodeath’s production of The Reproductive Life Cycle of a Flower currently playing at the Toronto Fringe Festival. I was, at first, intrigued by the playwright’s intentions: “We wanted to see if we could illustrate the parallels between humans and other organisms.” (Kara Crabb). I, too, find the natural world fascinating and ripe with metaphorical possibilities. On their own, however, these possibilities don’t ensure a compelling story. The Most Honest Man in the World is a one-man show conceived and performed by Andrew Wade, produced by Spired Theatre, and presented as part of the Toronto Fringe Festival. Wade takes the audience through his personal journey of becoming as emotionally honest a person he can be – all while creating a makeshift polygraph device on stage.
