This weekend is the 5th annual Lab Cab Festival.  It’s taking over every bit of Factory Theatre, inside and out.  Most shows run around 15 minutes, a nice bite size piece of free entertainment. I’m certainly going to be there this weekend, with my son in tow.

On Saturday, September 18th and Sunday, September 19th 2010, the Lab Cab Festival celebrates it’s fifth year!

Music, dance, theatre, film, poetry, kids stuff, clown, multi-media, visual art and comedy are presented in the basement, washrooms, lounges, stairwells, theatres, lobbies, rehearsal hall, carpentry shop, courtyard and greenrooms of the 141 year old building.

The Lab Cab Festival is a FREE community event. Over fifty performance groups from various artistic disciplines perform work between 5 and 30 minutes from 12pm-6pm.

The mandate of the Lab Cab Festival is to provide a home for various artistic disciplines to experiment with new work in a fun and supportive environment.

Here is your chance to see Toronto’s hottest rising stars such as Marcus Jamin & Daniel Briere (the fastest up and coming puppeteers on the block) and comedian Inessa Frantowski (Canadian Comedy Award Winner and five time nominee) alongside established professionals like bluesman Raoul Bhaneja (Maple Blues Award Winner, Best Blues Band- NOW Magazine) and dancer Viv Moore (Worcestershire Saucy).

Joining our local artists are Victoria actress Hayley Carr, Winnipeg film maker Christian Goulet and Vancouver poet Marita Dachsel. Mexican artists Fernando Lara (theatre artist), QuiQue Escamilla (songwriter) and Ivan Regaldo (children’s story writer) showcase their diverse talents from across Mexico. We are proud to welcome back to the Festival acclaimed poet Sandra Alland from her new home in Scotland.

The Lab Cab Festival has something for everyone, including performances for kids. Nannies on Call will provide free child care for parents seeking a more mature artistic experience.

Lab Cab starts each day with a FREE PANCAKE BREAKFAST from 12 – 12:30.

The Lab Cab Festival is supported by the Ontario Arts Council, the Toronto Arts Council, Canadian Heritage and with the support of the Factory Theatre, Nannies on Call and Scotiabank.
