Mooney on Theatre Recommends – 2015 Toronto Fringe Festival

Fringe-Club-Twinkly-Lights_sm1

This past weekend Mooney on Theatre sent its dedicated team of 30 writers and editors to cover all 147 shows* in this year’s Toronto Fringe Festival! With the sheer number of shows available at the festival, picking the ones you want to see can be a daunting task.

If you’re feeling a bit overwhelmed by the number of shows and you’re looking for a place to start, we’ve asked our staff to tell us about their favourite shows they’ve seen at this year’s festival. We hope our staff picks can help you navigate the Fringe.

If you’ve seen something you think is amazing that you think others should go see please let us know by leaving a comment.

And don’t forget to check out our complete list of Fringe reviews, Fringe Buzz features and our daily free ticket giveaways.

Happy Fringing!

fringe for free graphicWow, what a heluva first weekend for the Toronto Fringe Festival. Our Mooney on Theatre team has been working overtime over the past few days to bring you reviews of every show in this year’s festival.

We’re obviously excited by the shows on offer for this year’s festival and we hope you are too. To get you a little more excited, how about some free tickets from our daily Fringe for Free contest?

For every day of the festival, we’ll be giving out tickets to 5 shows. Exciting, right? What’s even more exciting is how easy it is to enter – you can enter each of the five contests by sending us an email (more details below).

Remember, you need to enter each contest individually. If we pick your name, you’ve got two tickets heading your way.

Check out the list of the 5 shows playing on Wednesday, July 8th after the jump.

The Dinner Table (Fail Better Theatre) 2015 Toronto Fringe Review

I’m not sure ifThe Dinner Table poster The Dinner Table (Fail Better Theatre) entirely needs a review. There are only twelve seats at this site-specific  Toronto Fringe Festival production that promises dinner and a show, with a rotating cast of two storytellers, so the run is a sell-out, save a stray ticket here or there. The two storytellers change every night, so no two shows are at all alike, except thematically. Even dinner, freshly cooked and served to all guests, is different each time. Was my reviewing presence superfluous? Possibly. Am I glad I had a chance to be there? Absolutely. Continue reading The Dinner Table (Fail Better Theatre) 2015 Toronto Fringe Review

Starry Notions (Nefarious Projects) 2015 Toronto Fringe Review

Photo of Ryan G HindsNo one could be more delighted to report that seeing Starry Notions tonight at Annex Theatre meant I finally found a Toronto Fringe show I want to rave about, to go on at length about, to answer strangers in lineups with when they ask the traditional Fringe smalltalk question: have you seen anything you’ve loved? Yes. I loved Starry Notions. Would you like to hear all about why? Excellent.
